Coinbase Library

A handful of press articles have come out lately about Coinbase and Bitcoin. We got mentioned as a top ten company at Y Combinator’s Demo Day (where we pitched investors on Coinbase) in both  Forbes  and  TheNextWeb . We also got invited to participate on a  Huffington Post panel  about bitcoin which had somewhere between 100-200k viewers. Roger Ver (who was also on the panel) gave us a nice shout out at the end before the host cut him off :) Overall it’s been exciting to see so much interest in Bitcoin.  Investors reactions have been really interesting - they either completely get its long term potential and see it as the future of payments being created right in front of us, or they completely don’t get it or view it as too high risk.  One thing is clear: if bitcoin (or some derivative of it) really does work, the world is never going to be the same.  Entire industries are going to be created and destroyed because of it, with consumer...

The Payment Landscape I’ve been having a lot of discussions lately around the current payment landscape, and I’m slowly getting better at explaining the trade offs between the different options. I drew something like this comparison matrix on the whiteboard the other day, and I think it sums it up nicely.  Bitcoin is the only option which marks a yes in all three categories: fast, cheap, and international. It’s also the only one that marks a yes in just the first two categories: fast and cheap. What do you think?  Did I miss anything or how could it be improved?

Exchange rates now shown in the send/request money dialogs Just launched…you can now view exchanges rates (powered by http://openexchangerates.org ) in your native currency from the send and request money dialogs.  It updates instantly as you type, and you can enter an amount in either box…the other will update. You can also choose your native currency in the My Account -> Basic Info tab and it will be used throughout the site to show exchange rates. Thanks Roger Ver for the suggestion!

Coinbase-to-Coinbase transactions are now confirmed instantly There is no risk of double spending when Coinbase generates a transaction from one user to another, so Marius launched instant confirmations today!
